Legal Question in Immigration Law in District of Columbia

Marriage Interview Questions

I am a US Citizen and my husband and I are in process to change his status to Green Card. We have recv'd notice of our INS Interview. Besides taking photos, lease, bank statements, insurance info and letters (notarized) from my parents & friends who know of our courtship and marriage I am lost on the specifics of the interview.

Other web groups say they can get very personal in questions. My husband is a typical male - he doesn't know what kind of socks I'm wearing today - or if I am. I'm female and can tell you that our receptionist is wearing orange floral print with ugly black sandals. He wouldn't even notice.

I'm am a little concerned that they use those type of personal questions to trip you up. We dated two years and have been married just over one year. What is the standard protocol for the questions? I've been told to expect questions about our sex life, why we aren't pregnant yet etc. As a citizen I am mildly offended if these are indeed the questions asked, but I need to know this for sure.

Do they stamp his passport then after the interview or do we continue to wait. He just went to be fingerprinted this past weekend.

Thanks in advance

Re: Marriage Interview Questions

Unless you have been in removal/deportation proceedings, you do not need to be concerned with highly detailed questions. They will be looking at the over all picture presented regarding the good faith nature of your relationship - not how well you both do on a pop quiz of personal details. If you have further questions you may contact my office directly. My best wishes.

Re: Marriage Interview Questions

Don't worry about your interview. if yours is a straight forward case of two people finding each other and falling in love your interview is going to be brief and painless. Yes, they will ask many questions, but they are highly unlikely to go into too many details unless they have reason to believe that you are perpetrating a fraud (for example if you husband was in deportation or was simply looking for a way--- ANY WAY-- to stay in the U.S.). Bring all of your documents, wedding pictures, bills with both your names on it, lease, deed... anything that shows that you are legitimate couple living together. They see thousands of people and they are well trained to spot "the fake couples" (especially because the "fake couples" most of the times don't know each other very well): three years together.... He'll know more than you realize!! Good luck and let me know how it went.
