Legal Question in Personal Injury in Florida

I recently was involved in an accident in which me and a passenger got herniated discs in the neck. The person responsible for the accident was drunk, and his policy is 20,000, 10,000 per person. I was struck from the back and was caused to hit the car in front of me. So now, my friend, me, and also two people from the car I hit are claiming money from the 20,000. At the settlement we each got 5,000. Do you think their was a possibility of us getting more money if his policy was only for 20,000? ONe lady had a broken foot and her daughter had an 8000 emergency bill. The reason iim asking is because a friend said we shouldnt of sign the settlement check, and that we should've taken it to court. What should i have done? I did sign the 5000 settlement check.

You need an attorney. If you had an attorney, you need to have a frank discussion with him.

Question, do you have UM (Underinsured/Uninsured Motorist Coverage)? That would possibly be an avenue to pay you more than the policy you are citing in your questions. If you have any questions, you can call 77l2.332.1689.
