Legal Question in Administrative Law in Florida

Employee rights

I have worked for a company for 3 yrs. I have always had good reviews and received raises. I am now wanting to relocate and transfer with the company, however, my boss told the District Manager that in the past ''couple of weeks'', she has not been ''happy'' with me. Consequently, my DM told me that I could not transfer with the company. Is it legal for her to basically bad mouth me and prohibit my employment with this company in another location because she has personal issues or is jealous. Business has been running smooth as usual and nothing out of the ordinary has occured. Do I have any legal ground against my boss or the company, for listening to her nonsense.

Re: Employee rights

There is no law prohibiting your boss from expressing his or her opinion about your work to the District Manager. If your boss made false statements of fact about you, that might be another matter. Nor, unless you have a written agreement with your company that says otherwise, do you have any right to have a transfer approved, unless perhaps you have a disability and a transfer is the only reasonable accomodation possible. Given the facts you have stated, your remedy, if any, lies within your company, not in the legal system.

Good luck!
