Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Florida

I live in Florida and filed Chapter 7 Bankruptcy in April, 2005 and it was discharged in July, 2005. One of the credit card companies is trying to recover the entire amount plus interest from my ex whom I had divorced 3 years earlier. The account had been opened as a joint account years earlier while we were married, but the debt was mine and was incurred after the divorce. How long can they continue to try to recover this from him?

Because it was a joint account, both you and your husband were liable for the full amount of the debt (plus interest). It doesn't matter that the two of you were divorced. When you received your Chapter 7 discharge, you were no longer personally liable for the debt. But your husband's liability remained intact.

A consumer law attorney could help your husband fight off that debt.
