Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

I paid to have tiles installed in my house. The job is not satisfactory, too many tiles are popping up and are not level with each other. I have called the owner and was told there is nothing they can do. What are my legal options?

Any attorney will advise you to file a complaint with your state's contractors licensing board. If the person who did the defective work is not licensed, they are in big trouble. Normally there is a 1 year warranty on work done by a licensed contractor, but this may vary by state. Consult with a good business attorney in your area for specific advice.

You have several options and should consult personally with an attorney where you can discuss all of the facts related to your case. Before contacting an attorney you should at the very least gather: the contract; copies of all correspondence between you and the installer; copies of payments (bills and receipts); notes from any conversations with the installer; materials lists. You should get a couple of written estimates from licensed contractors to see how much it will cost to repair what the other company did.

Once you have this information contact an attorney and schedule an appointment to sit down with them and go over your situation. You should contact an attorney who handles construction disputes or construction defects.

And as Mr. Murphy mentioned, time is of the essence. You don't want to be barred from bringing your claim because of time.
