Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Florida

Is it legal for a Landord or Rental Management company to request a photocopy of one's ID & Social Security Card? I recently heard they only need to see them but not make copies that can be stolen thus stealing one's identity.

Get a passport. The next time somebody wants "photo ID" that they want to copy, give them your passport. OR you can tape over the license number and then YOU give them a copy of your drivers license, showing your photo without the number at the top. Landlords and rental companies MAY have the right to your social security NUMBER, because they are advancing "credit" by permitting you to move in, although they do charge rent in advance. You are smart to avoid giving this information as much as possible.
