absentee filing of small claim in florida

I am currently living in the us virgin islands, and upon moving here i sold household of furniture to florida resident on payment plan. i have signed purchase agreement, and copies of first payment checks. the purchas price was $3000 and the pay off was to be April 2002 to date payments have not been made and there is a balance due of $2650. Other than going back to florida to file a claim, can i file from here or get power of attorney for a friend in fl?

Must file in FLA. where defendant resides.
