Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Credit card debt - 11 yrs old

My brother received a subpoena to appear in civil court regarding a credit card debt to Sears from 11 years ago. They called to propose a payment plan but he is unable to pay any of the terms they proposed. Isn't there a statute of limitations on this and he is no longer required to pay? What could happen if he does not show up in court? Thank you.

Yes there is and it has passed. He must go to court and raise that defense.
