Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Someone that use to be a friend of mine owes me about $400. I lent $300 in cash and the rest were for friends and family in the form of money and care packages to her account when she was recently in jail. The is nothing in writing between us. The only proof I have is a text where she acknowledges that she will pay me the money she owes me. I do have at least one witness that is a friend of mine that she admitted to owing me $400. She was recently released from jail for DUI and probation violation and is now on some form of federal probation for giving false information about her old boyfriend and father of one of her children. I am not sure what they are involved in but it seems like something shady. Can I take her to court?

For 400.00 - I would drop her as a friend. It would cost you more to get that money than to just end the friendship. Besides - sounds like she will soon be returned to the jail and I will just bet dollars to donuts she's gonna call you for care packages.
