Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

I live in Orlando and lost my job nearly a year ago. I can not afford to pay my credit cards and have tried to work with the bank but they will not help me. I stopped paying my credit cards and now they have been turned over to an attorney, who has threatened to put a lien against my home.

I had read somewhere that if you have Homestead Exemption in the state of Florida, a creditor can not put a lien against your home. Is this correct?
