Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Old medical bill

I was just notified of a medical bill that is outstanding from 1999 when I was 14 years of age. I just recieved a notice from a collection agency wanting the payment in full. This was when I was 14 and I have no memory or such related to this as I would have assumed it was my parents responsibilty in 1999. Can they come after me in 2008? Also how can I get them to show proof I am responsible and for what services I am being asked to pay? Thanks in advance

Re: Old medical bill

I believe the statute of limitations has run. If you make any payment, the statute starts all over again. They may be trying to bait you into making a payment so the entire debt becomes due again. I would contact them and suggest that the statute has run and that they should cease contact with you under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
