Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Ownership

Say for instance that you wanted to buy a house and the company ask you to give $1,000 as deposit and later on due to financial hardship you will not be able to purchase the house should the company refund you the deposit money? And also the company made a mistake by asking you to pay the deposit twice do I have to wait until they sell the house to get at least a portion of my deposit back? One thing also the house is not even leavable yet and the deposit money from what they told me was going to use toward closing. I did not have a final signed contract the only thing that I signed so far was the loan application. Please advise.

thanks.
