Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

I have some past medical bills that were taken over by a few credit companies. Since I actually had no 'contract' with the credit companies, am I legally responsible to pay them?

Your bills were turned over to a collection agency. No you do not have to pay them but then it will go against your credit. I suggest you make a payment plan with them or just send $5.00 a month to each medical place that you owe.

Look at the letters you received from the collection company to determine whether or not they claim they own the debt. If they claim they owe the debt, then they should have sent you a letter stating that you have 30 days to request proof of ownership. See my website, www.consumerlawyerhelp.com for a validation letter you should send to the collection company. See also my website on how to handle these types of cases. In short, you have rights under the Fair Debt Credit Act. They have to comply with the statute, and if they fail to do so then you do not owe the debt. Good luck.
