Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

wage garnishment

a friend of mine went to pick up her check at her work and instead of a check she received notification that her entire check was garnished..she told me that her husband bought a big screen tv and she signed her name to the paper work and her husband failed to pay for the tv....I thought only the Government could garnish your wages...is this true or not. I need a reply very quickly...my friend thinks her husband has pulled a fast one on her.

Re: wage garnishment

Anyone can garnish a person's wages subject to strict limitations placed by Florida law. Certain individuals are exempt from garnishment, however.

I strongly suggest that your friend consult an attorney who is well versed in this area of the law. If the attorney is knowledgable, your friend may be able to avoid garnishment altogether.
