Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Applying for a concealed weapons permit

I am applying for a concealed weapons permite and i was wondering about a 1994 charge,

I had a driving dispute back in 1994 and was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, the car being the deadly weapon. After about 2 months after me being arrested, the charge was dropped from the state prosecutors office. I pulled my fdle record and it shows disp:NOLLE PROS-COMP PTI, What does this mean and can i get this off my record ?

I disagree with the prior attorney who answered. This case qualifies to be expunged.

The notation means that the charge was dismissed ("nolle prosequi" is latin for "the charge was nullified by the prosecutor," roughly) because you completed ("COMP") Pretrial Intervention ("PTI").

In other words, according to the record, you completed a program similar to probation (PTI)and, because of your successful completion of the program, the charges were dropped.

I don't know if that's what really happened but, either way, you qualify to have your record sealed, if that's what you want, so long as you meet the other sealing requirements (you've never had another sealing, you've never been adjudicated guilty of any crime, etc.).

You don't need to have your record sealed to get your permit, but the option to seal is probably open to you, if you want. Sealing isn't necessary for CCW permits, but it is necessary to clean up your record. Most any Florida criminal lawyer can help you get your record sealed.
