Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Hello, my boyfriend has been out of prison for almost a year (non violent crimes - all GTAs). He served two years and then went back for another five after being out less than a year when he was relatively young. (He's only 26 now.)

My question is, if he continues to do well and behave himself, as he has been (working legitimately, staying out of trouble, registers as a career criminal and stays were he's supposed to, etc.)..is there a way to eventually have the "career criminal" status dropped in a few years, or is this going to trail him for the rest of his life? I'm curious because we want to plan vacations and stuff and right now, he has to register in any state we go to (according to the sherrif in our county) if we are gone for more than 5 days, then he has to register when he returns, etc. What if we want to go on a cruise out of the country for a week? From what I researched, so far, he can have a passport. Just seems ridiculous to have to keep registering forever and keep this title of "career criminal" if he doesn't involve himself in any criminal activity ever again.

If he has been classified a career criminal, then for court purposes, he will always be one. Of course, he has to pick up a charge that qualifies him for career criminal sanctions. (For example, a misdemeanor makes no difference on that status). So long as he is not on probation, parole, or community control, there is no restriction on leaving the country so feel free to make plans.
