Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I am trying to find out what my rights are

A few years ago I pressed charges against my step father for child molestation. After about a month or so the charges did not go through in the Florida court system because they said I waited to long to say something. I have tried to live with that decision now for a few years and I just can't. I have a hard time living my life knowing that he is still out there and he has the ability to do it again. The problem I faced was it started happening when I was about 7-9 years old. I informed my mother of this and she refused to help me. She was basically an accomplish. She cought him doing it many times and still chose to stay with him and not do anything about the situation. I need to know what my rights are for this type of a situation. Am I able to try once again to get these charges to go through or do I have to live my life knowing that he is fully capable of doing this to another child?

Please help me.

Re: I am trying to find out what my rights are

He cannot be prosecuted becuase the statute of limitations has run out, so from a criminal law point of view there is nothing that can be done.
