Whether to hire an attorney is a commonly asked question. A misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge carries a maximum punishment of a year in the county jail, as well as the possibility of up to one year of probation. One additional administrative penalty that most people are not aware of until often it is too late is that a conviction for possession of marijuana also carried a 2 year Driver's License suspension.

With these ramifications only you can decide if you need a lawyer. A retained lawyer can only provide you the best advice as to how to plead when you go to court.
