Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Hi. I am currently living in the USA. I studied in Mexico and got a law degree there. I then came to the USA and got a Masters in Criminal Justice. Today I am looking for my next step. I have been researching and have found the information to be very confusing. I am not sure if I should study a juris doctorate or a Phd. I have found several options in Phd such as a Phd in Public Policy specializing in Criminal Justice. But, I am still very confused as to what is the difference between a juris doctorate and a Phd. Please, can you help me figure out what I should study next. Thank you very much

It depends what your goals are. If you want to practice law( be a lawyer in the US) you need a JD and you must pass the bar exam. A Phd is just a degree. You should also check whether your foreign degree is enough to take the bar exam. Good luck.
