Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Rape in another state

I live in Alabama and was raped in Florida in March. Does Florida have a statute of limitations on sex crimes? There was no threat of bodily harm, etc. Since both parties live in Alabama, would I have to find legal counsel in Florida, and if it makes it to court, would it be tried in Florida?

Re: Rape in another state

I am sorry that happened to you. You should contact the police in the city it happened in or the State Attorney in the county it happened in. Yes it would be tried in Florida.

If you were raped in Florida, you should report the crime to the police in Florida. Even if both of you live in Alabama, jurisdiction is still in Florida and any trial would have to happen there.
