Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Florida

Dating age

My daughter is 14 and she is asking to date a boy that is 18. They are already hanging out but supervised my me, her mother. Is this legal? If inappropriate contact is made what can happen?

Re: Dating age

You want to allow your daughter to date an adult? Almost always that is a dumb move. If something "inapropriate happens" you daughter can get pregnant. As a 14 year old she is not likely to be ready for a "relationship." This is a legal forum, but allowing your 14 year old to hang out or date an adult is not a smart move.

Re: Dating age

Depending on how "inappropriate" the contact is, he could face life in prison.

Florida was really not kidding when it made laws to keep kids under 16 away from people over 17 (and especially over 24, but that's not your situation). Even under more innocent circumstances, he could easily get 15 years.

Here's a better idea. Let's worry a lot less about him and a lot more about your daughter. Why on earth would you let your 14-year-old date an 18-year-old? How about we get this pervert out of her life (which I realize is easier said than done), and she can get back to making good grades and meeting boys her own age? The best supervision you can give her is to help her see that she can wait until she's 18 (at least) before she goes out with guys four years older than she is.
