Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I currently live in Florida, and my ex wife in Alabama. We divorced in Alabama in September of 2000. I got custody of my son with her having visitation and she was ordered to pay child support. The only support I've received from her in the past 11 years is where they docked about $40 out of a paycheck, and a $250 income tax refund. At one point I was jobless and no automobie and had no way to take my son to school, so I agree to let him live with her mom on a temporary basis and go to school with her.

We had her lawyers write it up and everything, and this lasted probably a couple years. Then he came back to live with me, and everything has been fine. His mom hasn't shown much interest in seeing him over the years. However now she's drawing an ssi check for depression, and has a court appointed lawyer trying to pull files and take my son from me for "child abandonment" for the time he spent at her moms. Even though it was something her mom and I had worked out between us. She has always been an unfit mother, and left her other 2 kids off on that father as well.

Does she have a leg to stand on in this matter so to speak. My son is doing very well here with us, he loves his school, and makes all A's and B's. He is approaching 14 years old and says he doesn't want to live with his mother. Unforuntely if this goes to course I cant afford a lawyer and she's using the one the court appointed her about not paying her child support to do this instead. Please help :(

Since your case seems to be in Alabama you need to post your question there. I can also advise you to call Alabama Legal Services they may or may not take your case but they can offer you some legal advice for free.
