Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Property after death of spouse...

We were married in Tennessee, live in Florida. We each have homes, he keeps trying to commit suicide (depression, drinking...). He tells me he wants to put my name on his house, in case, he says. Right now his ex's name is still attached. He is looking to get a quit claims deed. He is 100% disabled, SSI disability and VA disabilty, both. I am not sure if I should go along and put my name on it, or just say don;t worry about it. What happens if God forbid I am not there one day and he does kill himself?

Re: Property after death of spouse...

Where the divorce took place is the key. Where are the homes? In Florida I presume. If there was a disposition of the real estate, he should have clear title and his wife should file the quit claim deed. Sometimes the divorce decree will operate to pass title to the property. If not he will have to go back to court and force the issue.

Your name on a deed will not matter until the title is straightened out.
