Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

how does spouses debt effect me

My husband and I have been married for 7 years. During this time we have kept all our finances seperate. We have no joint bank accounts and no joint credit cards. My husband recently started a business (about 9 months ago) and I just found out that he borrowed heavily on several bank credit cards to finance his business. We are always teetering on the edge of divorce. He never consulted me on borrowing the money and never mentioned it til just the other day. I am not a card holder on any of these cards. I am concerned that should we get divorced that his debt may effect my credit, and I would like to know if I would be held accountable for it. Is there anything I could do now that would protect me in the future?

If you did not sign the card application and did not use the card, then you are not responsible for payment. If there is a default in payments, there should be no negative impact upon your credit report. If you wish to discuss the matter further, call me at 305-940-8080.
