Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida
I was just bitten in the face by a dog. The owner met me at a Dollar General to sell me the dog. My wife was with me. The woman said that the dog was a 10 month old lab mix and was very gentle. She also stated that it had never bitten anyone. When I bent down to pet the dog and pick it up, I was bitten. I have several lacerations and a split lip, which may need a stitch. Im not sure if the owner can cover anything. She said she was moving. Is there any way to recoup my expense if I do go to the emergency room this evening?
1 Answer from Attorneys
In Florida, dog bites are strict liability which means the owner is responsible for the dog's actions. Many times dog bites are defended by the dog owner's homeowners insurance. To a lessor extent Dollar General may have some liability (not as likely) you should consult with an attorney. A consultation for a dog bite case should be free.
