deframation of character/slander

i was laid off my job,and started receiving unemployment benefits.my employer appealed the decison,and in doing so she accused me of stealing moneyfrom the register which i did not at anytime i worked there,also she said that i was using drugs on the job and also drinking on the job,and i do not use drugs nor drink.there was alot of negative things said against me.i would like to know if i can sue her for slander/deframation of character?

If the statments were made at the hearing you cannot make a claim. If made to the public, you can.
