Personal Service (Summons)

I am being sued by a lending company, received a summons today to respond about a debt which I owe but cannot pay. I cannot afford a lawyer, but my income prevents me from getting financial aide. How should I respond to the summons

The summons will state that you must respond in writing to the lawsuit. Call the attorney listed on the summons as see if you can work out a payment plan. If the attorney can get the client to agree - that may keep the lawsuit from going forward.
