Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Hurricane closes office - still pay employees?

Hello there. Hurricane Frances fury caused me to close my medical office

Friday. Must I pay my employees because it was my decision to close? I did

pay them for Hurricane Charley, but I don't want to do so again, unless the

law requires it.

The law does not require you to pay your employees for time they did not work, which of course includes time not worked because of the hurricane. However, you may still want to balance the practical effects of your decision against your legal right to decide to pay or not pay them.
