My boss threatened to kick my butt in front of three other employees. it was my time to clock out and go home, so I did. Can I take legal action? I informed Human Resources and his boss.

From your post, it doesnot appear that you were damaged or sufferred any injury. Not all interpersonal disputes are meant to or should be resolved in court or cause the filing of a law suit.
