Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

I signed a 2 year non-compete with a former employer, and left that company 14 months ago. I recently started my own company in the same industry. I have maintained friendships with some of my former clients and they expressed to me a desire to make a change. My former employer found out I spoke to one person and has threatened legal action if I continue.

What are my rights as a business owner in terms of this non-compete, and how does the state of Florida make determinations as to what is in violation of such an agreement? Doesn't a company have the right to make their own choices, even if I used to work for a competing firm? Thanks for yout time!

Too many unknowns here for me to give an opinion. The non-compete may or may not be enforceable (in whole or in part). It's a matter of reading an understanding the contract first and foremost.

If you would like my help, please send me an email.
