Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Termination disclosed to co-workers

After 1 1/2 years of employment the manager wrote me up on Thursday afternoon. I did not agree with her allegations and would not sign the documents. Is it illegal to tell the rest of staff why I was terminated? She hasn't even informed me. I found out from a co-worker that she is firing me.

Re: Termination disclosed to co-workers

In Florida, the general rule is that an employer can fire an employee for any reason or no reason at all. Among the exceptions are if the employee was terminated because of his or her religion, gender, or some other protected status. Also, if the reason given for the termination was merely a pretext for some other illegal reason, that would be a violation.
