Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Unfair Termination w/Hostile Environment Discriminatory Behavior

Regional director who I reported to, and Divisional director were made aware of racist remarks said to me and about me by entrenched and well connected volunteers two months after I began working as a fundraiser for a non-profit. I was told by the regional to continue to work with them anywayas they were important to the agency. I felt trapped, and scared, so I did. Less than 2 months after the incidents, the regional hired the daughter of the volunteer who had said the racist statements to me to be my boss as district director. I was terminated by the regional director after surpassing my budget objectives ahead of schedule and being injured on the job on March 15, 2002. What is the time limit I have to file a complaint against this agency?

In Florida you have 300 days from the date of alleged employment discrimination to file a charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). I say, in Florida, because in some states the limit is 180 days. Still, it is my advice not to wait for the last day. If you have additional question or need help filing a charge feel free to contact me. That said, you could file a charge without an attorney. The EEOC does have an informative site at www.eeoc.gov. that could answer many of your questions. As to the "injury" - was that on the job and a workers comp injury? I would need a little more information to really have an opinion on that issue.
