Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

I cosigned a lease for my nephew, he was in the apartment for 4 years and had renewed his lease. My question is am I still resposible if I only signed the original lease because we have a collection agency harassing us for the money since he won't pay. We do not know all the details and wether he honestly owes the money or not because we are getting 2 sides of the story and do not know the actual truth.

If you co-signed, you are responsible. This is why co-signers are required where the tenant is irresponsible. If your nephew has cancelled checks showing his payment of the rent, and proving that no debt is owed, make copies and send them to the collection agency. If you nephew cannot produce proof of his payments, then you know which side of the story to believe.

I do see how you are responsible for the renewals if you did not sign.
