Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

I lease a property with two homes. I live in the main house and another tenant on another home but we are on the same lease. The other tenants has not paid his rent in two months and the owner of the propety (which lives in another state) has contacted me and gave me permission to go in the other house and change the locks. Can I legally do this?

Self help is not allowed under Florida law. To gain possession an eviction action must be filed by the owner. Perhaps you can file it if you have a possessory right under the lease
