if my son-in-law and granddaughter were car jacked in the parking lot of their apt complex in Orlando Fl. Would there be any grounds of breaking their lease 1 month early?

Maybe but not necessarily. Their written lease agreement controls how and when they can terminate the lease early. Seek some legal guidance to make sure they act within their contractual obligations.
