is it possible for a lawyer to settle a case at mediation without your approval?

No. If it is a true mediation, it cannot be settled without your signature on the agreement.

No. Remember, the attorney works for you and as such must have your approval to resolve your case. No, an attorney must have prior approval to settle a case. However, an attorney can't even head to mediation unless they have prior approval. So you need to speak with your attorney to see why he thought he had authority
