Legal Question in Personal Injury in Florida

I was simply walking on the sidewalk one morning (4/11) when I suddenly was attacked by a neighbor's pitbull. The sanitation truck was in operation at the moment. The noise from the truck prevented me from hearing the dog sneak up on me. I kicked the dog off of me after I was bitten. The dog ran across the street to his owner's home. I called 911. The police showed up and wrote a police report. Animal control also showed up. Animal Control picked up the dog and cited the owner. The police officer told me that I could file a civil suit against the owner due to the fact that the dog was not on a leash. Animal Control never heard from the owner. The dog was put to sleep. The bite broke the skin. It has healed, but I have a permanent mark on my leg. I took photos of the bite on the day of the incident. I went to the emergency room. I have medical bills from that visit. I was in pain for three days. What legal steps should I take against the owner of the dog?

Unless the owner had insurance I wouldn't waste the time.

See a ;lawyer in your area that does personal injury work to determine if the owner has insurance. Many cities require insurance if one owns a pit bull.
