Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

I have decided to break my lease within my current apartment complex and move to another, and I was kind enough to give a 30 day notice and will even pay any fees that may come with breaking it. But now that I have given notice to my apartment complex, I have had to call maintenance for concurring problems that have come along with the apartment. My concern is that when it is time for me to move out, the owners may decided to charge me damages that were caused on their behalf. What actions should I take in order to prevent this from happening and what can I do about it?

I suggest putting all requests in writing and sending the requests both to the apartment complex and to the landlord. I would tell them in writing the exact nature of the problem and how it is causing continued damage. I would write multiple letters and request repeatedly.

Without knowing the exact maintenance problems you are talking about, I'm not sure what other actions you should take. For example, you cannot simply let the whole place flood because the maintenance staff won't come fix the plumbing, and then say it's not your fault. Allowing continued damage, regardless of the maintenance staff's compliance, could be your fault under certain circumstances.

Based on the information you provided, I don't have a good understanding of what these problems are or why you may be held responsible. You should submit any requests for repairs in writing as proof that they were requested. If you find that the landlord tries to charge you for things you do not think you should have to pay, I recommend you review landlord-tenant law or contact an attorney for further assistance.
