Liens are recorded on property for the protection of the person who filed that lien. A lien is filed when someone is owed money for work done for the home owner. It could be a mechanic lien for contractor work, a charging lien for attorney fees never paid. So it depends on the lien to determine when the lien expires, if ever. If there is a lien on a property, that property can not be sold until that lien is satisfied. Not all liens are proper so you should contact an attorney to determine if the lien is even valid.
