Legal Question in Traffic Law in Florida

Speed Ticket

I was cited in Gainesville, Florida (zip 32602)by police for speeding 53 mph in 35 mph zone. (Lazer gun 009905). I was driving my daugter's car alone and I was visiting my daughter (a junor at UF) and unsure of directions and did not note any postings for speed limits. I was going down hill and police car was situated 100 yrds from traffic light that was turning yellow. On seeing turning light I slowed down however police said I was still going too fast.

Do I have any recourse to challenge this ticket. I live in Ohio and would not be available to go to court (cost and time). My last traffic vioalation was more than 15 years ago and I have been driving for 35 years.

Re: Speed Ticket

There are lots of ways to challenge speeding tickets, and there are lawyers in Florida who handles these types of cases specifically, though it's difficult without you coming to court. I don't want to get your hopes up, becuase speeding tickets are often difficult and expensive to beat, but you should certainly call a criminal lawyer in the Gainesville area to determine how strong your case is.
