Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

Changing dispersal of funds

We have a legal will produced by an attorney. The first condition for dispersal of the sale of the estate in question states that the first six thousand dollars shall go to party A, and then the rest divided equally among the three children. We would like to change this to specify the first 10%, rather than $6000, will go to party A, and then the rest divided equally. Can we handle this in the gifts section at the end, accompanied by the required signatures, etc.? Or does a new will need to be drawn up?

Re: Changing dispersal of funds

If I understand well, you had a will drawn up by an attorney. You want to change a specific gift from $6,000 to 10%. All you need to do is have your attorney draw up a codicil. It's a simple document, a sort of addendum to your will that will simply modify the provision in question. It does have to be executed in the same way as a full will. There should only be a modest fee for this, if any.
