Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

We have a family trust involving 5 different properties. Apparently it was never recorded, although the tax assessors office sends tax bills with the trust number on it. My mother had taken the original documents to the attorney's office, and he was supposed to make copies. He became ill and subsequently closed his office. He claims he never had any of the documentation. When my mother attempted to get a reverse mtg from two different lenders, she was refused twice because of the existance of the trust due to the tax documents. No one seems to understand how to eliminate the trust because of the missing documentation. Can someone help?
