If he died having a will, the keeper of the will is suppose to file it within 10 days of his death with the clerk of court in the county in which he died. However, having said that - if the keeper of the Will does not file it - there is probably no way of knowing unless you know who your father's attorney was.

You can check the probate court in the county where your father died to see if the will is filed or a probate opened. If he had no assets that needed probate then the will does not need to be filed and probably wont be found. The original will is needed to be able to effectively transfer assets pursuant to it. Do you have access to his personal papers? I would check there.
