Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Georgia

Divorce and Bankruptcy?

My husband had some get rich quick schemes and accrued a great deal of debt (credit cards and several houses he will soon have to foreclose on due to the change in the housing market) throughout our marriage. I did not approve of any of this business ideas or any of his spending so we agreed to keep our money separate throughout the marriage. (We are under 30 with no real assets except a car each.)

We lived in Georgia and I live in North Carolina now. Our divorce will be finalized soon. If he decides to file bankruptcy later after the divorce, am I responsible for his bad business decisions, despite the fact that we have kept all of our finances completely separate and everything is in his name?

Probably not, but it is extremely important that a lawyer represent you in the divorce to be sure the papers are okay.
