Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Georgia

unlawful imprisonment

I was released from federal prison on 3-19-04. At that time, the prison officials had fulton co sheroffs dept take me into custody for a detainer from michigan. There was no request from michigan for fulton co to pick me up. I told officers this at prison and at jail, they never checked to confirm the request from michigan. I waived extradition officially on 3-22-04. On 3-23-04 Fulton co officially notified michigan of 15 days to pick-up. On 3-24-04 Michigan notified Fulton there was no extradition requested. Fulton Co did not release me from jail until 3-27-04. Is this a negligence claim, and if so should I seek representation? I have supportind documentation for everything.

Re: unlawful imprisonment

Go see a civil rights lawyer NOW. This is pretty classic and if anything can be done about the deprivation of freedom, you need to get right on it before paperwork starts dissappearing. I don't know why you waived extradition, but if you were reprsented by counsel, ths may be a problem. in any event, you need counsel to review everything in detail.
