Debt collection
I had a car which I turned into the credit company because I could not pay 6 years ago. 1 year ago a collection agency contacted me to pay the balance. This year I received a cancellation of debt notice and 1099 from the original creditor. Should I be paying the collection agency.

Yes, you should pay your debts. Perhaps either the collector or the original creditor will agree to not report any further negative information on the credit report in exchange for payment. Get the agreement in writing.
