Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

My husband made an agreement with a guy, he had previously done work for, to cut down some trees, remove the debris, and pick up leaves from a property that this guy owned. They discussed what should be cut down and what should be trimmed, but once my husband did a great deal of cutting down of the trees, the owner of the house said that my husband cut down a tree that he did not want cut down. My husband went over what was discussed and reminded him that he did not tell him to keep that tree. The owner of the house did not allow my husband to complete the job. My husband asked to be paid for the work that he had done and the owner refused. Can he legally withhold payment for the work that was completed?
