Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

paid out account

I had an account with sears. I paid the account off 8/16/06.

sears agreement was no intrest nor late fees with a monthly payment of 60.00.

another company called me and told me i had to pay them and they would not honor the sears agreement. sears never contacted me and I continued to send check to sears until the last payment was made.

this other company said i now owe them 700.00 and i had better pay them. they make threating phone calls.

it took me 5 years to pay off te sears account. there is no way i can pay this 700.00

what can i do?

Re: paid out account

I assume you had a written agreement with Sears that spelled out your settlement. Assuming you do, in the first 30 days of contact from the other creditords, you must send them a written dispute, and I'd attach a copy of the Sears agreement. If that fails, a lawyer can write a letter for you. But that written agreement with Sears is the key. Use it to your advantage.
