Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

Probation Violation

My son was charged with underage drinking and was placed on 12 month probation. The condition of his probation stated if he completes the alcohol drug treatment class, pay his fines and completes his community service within six months, he would not have a record. However, if he violates any part of his probation, that is, get in any other type of legal trouble, he would be faced with legal penalties set by the judge. He was arrested for selling a book to the college bookstore which was reported stolen by the owner. I would like to know what penalties will he be faced with by the judge, how should he plea and should he get a lawyer? Also, would it be advisable to get a lawyer from the area where he is charged?

Re: Probation Violation

If he's already been sentenced to probation, you're asking too late. The case has been decided. It sounds like he either got a deferred disposition or 1st offender treatment. The time to have gotten counsel was before that court appearance.
