Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

I have a friend who asked her lawyer to subpoena me in her divorce case I don't have any money to get to TN & I am in GA how do I handle this?

You could try calling the attorney who subpoenaed you. See if you really have anything relevant to add to the divorce issues. If the attorney insists, then see if some other arrangement can be worked out - maybe you can testify by phone or the lawyers can take your deposition.

Failing you being able to work something out, you could try contacting an attorney in TN and seeing what you need to do to quash the subpoena.

Whether you must attend, and how much jail time or fines you may face for not coming, depend on Tennessee law. Most states require a tender of travel expenses for an out of state subpoena and the subpoena may be invalid without it. Call a Tennessee attorney to determine if you need to comply and what options you may have (such as testimony by deposition or phone).
